As we enter day 52 of lockdown, I am now being asked to reschedule July and August wedding bookings, most people are going to next year now rather than take a chance that normality will return this year at all. In truth I have written this year off completely.
But what happens next year, we all went into this expecting it to last a few weeks then a switch would be pulled and we would go back to what we knew as normal before. Clearly that won’t happen, what we knew before is long gone, at least for now.
Weddings are obviously about people, often lots of people in close proximity so I imagine they will be one of the last things to be allowed to happen without some serious restrictions, could you imagine the above group photo being allowed now? One option the Government has is to allow them to happen with limited numbers, they might be limited to a number or maybe to immediate family only to allow spacing out around the venue. It’s my feeling, in that case most people would postpone rather than limit their numbers to that level. However, from speaking to Brides a lot recently, if the numbers were set at around 50 people then I get the feeling most people would go ahead with their big day.
So what are the options for those that can’t be there, the logical option is live streaming which although available at funerals, even before lock down, is very unusual at Weddings. It’s my view that there will be a greater call for this service once Weddings are allowed to return. In reality a guest could simply point a mobile phone at the couple and set if off on facebook but it can also be provided by your photographer or videographer, after all they have a prime spot at the front, they understand light and technology – they are ideally placed to do this for you .
I am taking this time in lockdown to research what’s needed to perform this service and look at what training I will need. I will be happy to provide this service free for any of my clients who have had their wedding numbers limited by Corona virus, no matter when their Wedding takes place. The only limitation is the speed of the internet connection at the venue.
